Members of the Ekpeye Freedom Fighters in Rivers State have appealed to the founder of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, to help them abandon armed struggle and return to normal civilian life.
The group reportedly made the appeal in a video, expressing its desire to leave the forest and embrace peace, rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
In a letter titled Request for Pardon and Amnesty, the fighters reportedly expressed remorse over some of their past activities and appealed to the cleric to intervene on their behalf.
They also called for peace in Ekpeye communities, particularly Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas.
The appeal comes against the background of Apostle Chibuzor's reported involvement in rehabilitating repentant militants, cultists and other individuals seeking to abandon criminal activities.
Through OPM, the cleric has reportedly supported initiatives involving disarmament, vocational training and rehabilitation.
However, it remains unclear whether the group has formally surrendered its weapons or secured an official amnesty arrangement.
The response of Apostle Chibuzor and the involvement of relevant government authorities will be important in determining the next steps.
The development has renewed discussions about rehabilitation, disarmament and the search for lasting peace in Rivers State.
