Oyo Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Murder Of 26-Year-Old Man In Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 26-year-old man, Kehinde Asimiyu, following an alleged stabbing incident in the Olodo area of Ibadan.

The suspects, identified as Taiwo Babarinde and Ishola Semiu, were arrested after the incident, which reportedly occurred on November 1, 2026, at Olodo Garage.

According to the Police, Asimiyu was allegedly stabbed with a broken bottle by Babarinde following an altercation between them.

The victim was rushed to Academy Hospital, Texaco, Iwo Road, Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead by a doctor.

His remains were subsequently deposited at Adejare Embalming Centre, while the Police commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The Command said the two suspects were in custody, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the incident reportedly triggered unrest at the Olodo Police Outpost, raising concerns over a possible breakdown of law and order in the area.

In response, the Police deployed additional security personnel alongside the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to restore calm and prevent further disturbances.

The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, also directed the Area Commander, Moniya, to engage community leaders and other stakeholders to address the situation.

The meeting involved representatives of the Local Council Development Area, tricycle and motorcycle operators, and youth leaders, with discussions focused on peaceful coexistence and improved cooperation with security agencies.

The Police Commissioner urged residents to remain calm and avoid violence, assuring them that adequate security measures had been put in place to protect lives and property.

He also warned individuals seeking to exploit the incident to cause violence or disrupt public peace that the Command would deal decisively with anyone found culpable.

The Police urged residents to provide credible information to security agencies to help maintain peace in Olodo and its surrounding communities.
