Attacks On Corpers/Other Electoral Officers Will Have Consequences - INEC
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan has warned that anyone who attacks National Youth Service Corps members or electoral officials during election duties will face the full weight of the law.
He gave the warning Saturday 31 October 2026 during INEC’s South-South zonal interactive meeting with staff and readiness assessment in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State.
He said, “Anyone who threatens or harms INEC officials, including National Youth Service Corps members deployed for election duties, would face the full weight of the law.”
The commission chair also cautioned electoral officers against partisanship, negligence, absenteeism or financial misconduct, saying such would attract disciplinary action.
Amupitan revealed that Nigeria’s South-South zone has 15,823,550 registered voters inclusive 3,736,434 in Rivers State, stressing that no eligible voter should be disenfranchised via administrative negligence or logistic failure.
