Mr Thomas Hayes is the i9 Sports youth league director who called the Police during a viral dispute at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Winter Park, Florida.
The incident involved 3-year-old soccer prodigy Nevada Pierre, who was playing up in a league designed for 5-year-olds. The clash has sparked immense internet debate, with two entirely conflicting narratives surrounding why the police were ultimately called.
The Two Sides of the Dispute
• The Parents' Account:
The child's mother, Martasia Griffin, and father, Don Pierre, claim that their son was being unfairly targeted and kicked out of the league simply because he was "too good" at soccer. They shared videos online showing Nevada effortlessly dominating the pitch and scoring multiple goals, arguing that other parents grew frustrated because their children couldn't take the ball away from him. They felt the league was penalizing a toddler for his natural athletic talent.
• Thomas Hayes' Account (The League):
Hayes told dispatchers and responding officers that the call had nothing to do with the child's talent, which he openly admitted was "very advanced" and "great." Instead, Hayes stated that Nevada was repeatedly pushing and playing too aggressively with the other children. Because the recreational league prioritizes beginner fun and equal rotation,
Hayes tried to substitute the boy. According to Hayes, Nevada's parents became "really, really disruptive" and "unruly," followed him around, called him names, and created a large scene in front of other families.
The Resolution
The Police arrived at the scene and officially classified the incident as a civil matter. No one was arrested, ticketed, or formally forced to leave. The family left voluntarily after the game concluded, and the league issued them a refund.
The child's mother has since shared full unedited game clips on Instagram to challenge the league's claims of pushing, stating that her son was traumatised by the event. She noted that he will be moving to a youth training program run by former pro soccer player Eddie Johnson.
