Supporters of Israel's Joint List Arab party celebrated in Nazareth on Tuesday after exit polls indicated historic performance, with party head Yousef Jabareen declaring that they had sent far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir “home.”
A supporter of the Joint List was filmed waving a keffiyeh, a traditional Palestinian garment symbolising resilience, identity and heritage in the face of Israel’s repeated human rights abuse.
Exit polls from Israel’s main television channels projected that the two Arab political lists would win a combined 17–18 seats in the 120-member parliament, up from 10 in the 2022 election.
According to exit polls published by Channel 12, Ra’am and the Joint List were projected to win seven and 11 seats, respectively, The Jerusalem Post reported.
Israeli by citizenship and Palestinian by heritage, Arab Israelis make up a fifth of the population but historically have voted at lower rates than Jewish Israelis.
They face systemic discrimination in Israel and live under an apartheid system, according to Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
