A whole NYSC corper in full green uniform entered a phone shop in Lagos and tried to buy an iPhone XR with a fake transfer alert.
The shop owner caught him, took his phone, and found a long history of failed “recurring transfers” going back months. The guy has clearly been running the same fake alert scam repeatedly.
Some of the fake alerts or transactions reportedly ranged from as little as ₦1,500 to as much as ₦100,000, showing that the alleged scam was not a one-off incident.
The long history of similar fake alerts is particularly worrisome because it makes the act appear to have become a normal pattern of behaviour for him. It is difficult not to wonder how long it might have continued if he had not been caught.
They filmed everything and exposed him. Another reminder that even people in uniform can be 419.
