 Senator Buba Submits To Security Agencies Over Terrorism Allegations

Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District Shehu Buba Umar has voluntarily submitted himself to the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Police and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), for investigation over allegations linking him to terrorism financing, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

Buba disclosed this at a press conference in Bauchi, capital of Bauchi State, on Monday 14 September 2026.

According to him, he has nothing to hide and is prepared to cooperate fully with security agencies to establish the facts surrounding the allegations.

He said his decision follows repeated circulation of the claims, which he described as serious allegations requiring professional investigation rather than political arguments.

He also pointed out that he has previously served in the National Assembly in a capacity that involved national security and intelligence, where he worked with military, intelligence and other security agencies in efforts to combat banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities.

He alleged that legitimate security-related activities had been distorted to create an impression that he maintains links with criminal elements.

“I will not ask Nigerians simply to take my word for it. That is precisely why I have submitted myself to the relevant security agencies. Let the professionals investigate,” he said.

Buba said he had earlier petitioned the Nigeria Police Force in September 2025 over publications containing the allegations, resulting in criminal proceedings before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

He added that his legal team had also instituted legal action against an individual it believed was behind some of the allegations, with the matter referred for Interpol intervention.

The senator said litigation alone was no longer sufficient because the allegations bordered on national security, stressing that relevant security institutions should be allowed to investigate and establish the facts.

He reaffirmed his commitment to peace, security, justice and service to the people of Bauchi State and Nigeria, saying he would accept the outcome of any credible investigation based on facts and evidence.
