Russian Mi-8 Military Helicopter Enters NATO Airspace In Poland (Photos)
🇷🇺 Russian Mi-8 helicopter entered Braniewo, close to the Kaliningrad exclave. It remained in Polish airspace for about 42 seconds and entered to a maximum depth of about 300 metres.
Polish fighter jets were scrambled on Wednesday morning after a Russian Mi-8 military helicopter entered Polish airspace near Braniewo in the Warmian-Masurian region.
According to the Operational Command of the Armed Forces, the aircraft approached from Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast at 11:08 local time.
The helicopter remained in Polish airspace for around 42 seconds, entering Poland by approximately 300 metres.
The Russian aircraft's flight was continuously tracked by Polish radar systems.
The armed forces reacted immediately to the violation of Polish airspace. Fighter jets were scrambled and ground units remained on standby.
The Operational Command of the Armed Forces assessed that the nature of the incident may indicate an attempt to test the readiness level of Poland's air defence.
"The nature of the incident indicates that Russia is once again testing the readiness of our air defence" - the Operational Command of the Armed Forces said.
