Lionel Richie has been hospitalized again after undergoing a procedure for atrial fibrillation, forcing the 77-year-old singer to cancel three upcoming concerts with Earth, Wind & Fire, his representative said on Tuesday.
Mr Richie underwent a procedure to treat atrial fibrillation, commonly known as AFib, and is expected to take time away from performing while he recovers, according to a statement from his representative reported by PEOPLE.
The representative said the procedure went well and that Richie is doing well.
The canceled performances were scheduled for Sept. 26 in San Francisco, Sept. 30 in Chicago and Oct. 2 in Columbus, Ohio, as part of Richie’s Sing a Song All Night Long tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.
Lionel Richie’s 3rd hospitalization since June
The latest hospitalization is Richie’s third reported hospital visit since June, following earlier health incidents during his ongoing tour.
In June, Lionel Richie cut short a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, after telling the audience he felt dizzy and strange.
He was taken to the hospital and subsequently postponed two shows to rest and recover before returning to the stage.
Lionel Richie was hospitalized again in August after performing in St. Louis. He spent three days in the intensive care unit while doctors conducted cardiac tests and was released on Sept. 2.
PEOPLE reported at the time that he was back in Los Angeles and doing well.
