Sporting Lagos was due to play against Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan Stadium) on Sunday, September 6th, 2026. It was going to be the first Lagos derby in the NPFL (the top flight of Nigerian league football) in many years.
However the match was postponed because the APC is due to hold a rally at the same stadium on Tuesday, September 8th and they need to prepare the venue.
Sporting Lagos @SportingLagos
Sporting faithful,
We had really been looking forward to Sunday. After we fought back to get to the NPFL, our first home game was going to be a Lagos derby, and we were going to do it in front of you. It was the perfect way to come back.
Unfortunately, our game against Ikorodu City, originally scheduled for Sunday, September 6th, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 30th. We’ll share the full matchday details once confirmed.
If you have already bought a ticket for Sunday, it will remain valid for our next weekend home game. We will be in touch directly.
We know this is disappointing. Many of you had planned to come with friends, spend the afternoon together and welcome the team home. We were looking forward to that too.

On Sunday, September 13th, we play Inter Lagos. We may be the away team, but it will now be the first time in a decade that two Lagos clubs meet in the top flight.
Please, come. We would love to see you. Home or away does not change what this game means. It is still Sunday. It is still Onikan. It is still a Lagos derby. Let’s make it special.
You, our community, bring our games to life. This is how the Nigerian football league we all believe in will grow, through all of us who keep believing in it.
Thank you for staying with us. The best part is still ahead.
See you on Sunday 💙
