EFCC issues fresh wanted notice
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
The EFCC made the announcement on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, in a wanted notice signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
The commission identified Maina as a 61-year-old indigene of Biu in Borno State and appealed to members of the public with information about his whereabouts to contact the agency or other security authorities.
What the EFCC is looking for
In the notice, the EFCC said Maina was wanted in connection with an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
The agency did not provide further details about the property involved or explain the circumstances surrounding the fresh allegation in the notice.
It also urged anyone with useful information about Maina’s location to contact its offices or the nearest police station and other security agencies.
Maina’s previous legal battle
The latest development comes after years of legal proceedings involving Maina.
He was previously prosecuted by the EFCC over money-laundering offences connected to allegations involving pension-related funds.
In November 2021, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him and sentenced him to eight years in prison. The court also ordered him to refund N314 million to the Federal Government.
The Court of Appeal later upheld the conviction in 2023. Maina was subsequently released from Kuje Correctional Centre in February 2025 after serving part of his sentence under applicable correctional rules.
Another case was already before the court
Maina has also faced a separate financial-crime case before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Asokoro, Abuja.
That case involves allegations over funds said to have been received by Maina and another defendant. Proceedings in the matter have continued amid concerns over delays and Maina’s appearances in court.
The fresh EFCC wanted notice is a separate development. The allegation of receiving stolen property has not been determined by a court.
EFCC asks Nigerians to provide information
The anti-graft agency has now asked anyone who knows Maina’s whereabouts to provide information that could assist its investigation.
The latest declaration adds another chapter to the former pension reform official’s long-running legal battles with Nigeria’s anti-corruption authorities.
