Davido And Erigga: The Bitterness Of Many Nigerians
First, I am not the type of person who like to dabble into celebrity rows and all that, but I decided to go into this because I noticed that it clearly reveals something deep that is common with many Nigerians, especially among people who are not so privileged to come from well-to-do families.
Erigga aka Erigha Agharivbie is my Warri brother. In fact, we grew up together in the same neighborhood (Edjeba) in Warri. I have also worked with him at M-Slough Studio along Ovie Palace Road, PTI, in Effurun. No doubt, he is a cool guy and very funny. This is way back around 2005/2006 when most kids here were probably not born.
I would not know the reason for his recent post or who the target was, but I want to make something categorically clear. Nobody should be mocked or blamed for coming from a poor family, the same way nobody should be mocked or blamed for coming from a wealthy family. Whether Erigga's post targeted David Adeleke or not, the fact is that David cannot and should not be blamed for coming from a wealthy family. That he is privileged is not his fault, and in the same way, he is not be the cause why you or anybody's parents could not make it in life.
My post is not just about Davido and Erigga. It goes deeper than that. It is more about the severe bitterness among many Nigerians, especially the less privileged. They are usually triggered by success and they become uncomfortable when they see someone climbing. You buy a new car, they call you ritualist. You buy small Toyota Corolla to dey manage, dem go say na this small car wey you buy dey make you show yourself. And the person saying this cannot even afford the tyres of a wheelbarrow!
Many Nigerians are so bitter, not just online but offline too. That is why I keep saying that when you start making money, the first thing you should do is to leave that environment where you are surrounded by struggling people immediately. These are the type of people who want to see you fail.
I have seen many comments online. 'Davido, frog voice...'Davido, useless talentless artist...and so on. If you check the people making such comments, you will discover that many do not even have up to 10k in their bank accounts. Some of them are squatting with people. Some are finding it hard to feed well. Some have never had anybody in their entire lineage who has achieved [b]one-tenth of what David Adeleke has achieved. He did not steal your father's wealth to get to where he is today. He has frog voice, but he has won many awards, made so much money, and visited places that you can only dream of. What is the stress? You don't have frog voice but you are broke![/b]
My brother, in this life, nobody do you ooo. Hustle for your own success and leave bitterness alone. It is not the fault of the son of a wealthy man that your own father could not give you such life. Work hard to see that you give your own kids the life they deserve instead of being unnecessarily bitter towards other people's achievements.
