Celebrity Carpenter Threatens Legal Action Over Alleged Defamatory Publications
Popular Nigerian craftsman and entrepreneur, Moses Amiebenomo, popularly known as the “Celebrity Carpenter,” has issued a public notice to individuals and online platforms he accuses of publishing, republishing or amplifying what he describes as false and defamatory narratives about him.
In the notice, Celebrity Carpenter said he had, alongside his legal team, resolved to take appropriate legal action against bloggers, influencers, commentators and other third parties responsible for allegedly defamatory publications concerning him within the past one year.
He issued a notice to those involved in the allegation to remove publications, videos, commentaries, posts or other materials containing what he considers defamatory allegations.
According to the notice, the decision followed the circulation of allegations and narratives concerning him, which he said had been amplified by third parties without adequate verification or lawful justification.
“As a man, when allegations, defamatory statements, or false narratives are circulated against you by the mother of your children, there are limits to how you may respond, both legally and morally because of the children involved,” he stated.
He, however, warned that such considerations, in his view, did not extend to third parties who publish, republish, endorse or promote statements he sees as false and defamatory.
The notice further warned that the use of expressions such as “allegedly,” “reportedly” or “according to sources” would not, by itself, shield anyone who knowingly or recklessly publishes what is ultimately established to be false and defamatory.
He said that upon expiration of the seven-day period, his legal team would proceed with remedies available under applicable law, including possible defamation claims and other civil or criminal remedies where legally applicable.
He stressed that the notice was issued without prejudice to his rights and remedies concerning existing and future publications.
