Watch the Moment Burutu Youths Seize Council Chairman’s Boat Over Poor Healthcare, Electricity Shortage
Youths in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State have reportedly seized a boat belonging to the council chairman, Julius Takeme, during a protest over poor healthcare, electricity shortages and alleged neglect of the community.
The youths reportedly stormed local government facilities and switched off the generator supplying power to the area, chanting, “Off that generator!” They argued that if residents were struggling without electricity, the council chairman should not have access to power either.
The protest was reportedly triggered by the death of an expectant mother and her unborn child after she allegedly failed to receive timely medical attention at the government-owned General Hospital in Burutu.
Residents have also raised concerns about the condition of the hospital, citing alleged shortages of medical personnel, drugs, equipment and reliable electricity.
As the protest intensified, the youths reportedly dragged the chairman’s boat ashore while carrying placards demanding improved healthcare, electricity, roads and better governance.
The development has highlighted growing frustration among residents over what they described as a lack of basic services in the riverine community.
