Interviewer: Governor Soludo said he is paying billions of Ecological funds to cover debts owed from your time as Governor. He also said he paid off contractors owed by you as Anambra State Governor?
Obi: I don't like going back. I left office as Anambra State Governor 13 or 14 years ago but because it borders on my credibility, I will. Let me State categorically, as at the last day I left office in Anambra State, I was not owing any salaries, pensions or gratuity that Anambra State Government was supposed to pay.. I was not owing any supplier or contractor that has executed his job and his document processed, not one. If you find one, tell me I will stop campaigning. The last day I left office I wasn't owing one. I paid what was due to be paid.
One or two persons have called me on this Ecological funds issue. As at the last day I left office, I left in the First Bank branch at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, a balance of about 2.1 billion, it's not even part of the funds I left, reason been that it was specifically for Ecological funds because they were for projects tied to a specific purpose for erosion projects that were supposed to have taken off. This money was a contribution from the FG that came in about three months before I left office, and my people kept telling me let's spend this money and I said No, Government is a continuity. I wanted whomever taking over from me to succeed so he can pay all these monies. I will give you the Account number after this interview even though I have mentioned the branch, if you go to that account and you see anything contrary to what I have said, I will stop campaigning.
Interviewer: There are innuendoes that there are issues between you and Governor Soludo. Even though Willie Obiano came in between your administrations, we know Governor Soludo ran against you for your second term but you two have been cordial. He e is supporting President Tinubu, what really is going on?
Obi: Well, I have explained the issue of ecological funds. For Governor Soludo, like about 30 Governors supporting the President, he has the right to support whomever he chooses. I am not urging them to support me, I am urging them to allow for free, fair and credible elections. They all have one votes, if you come to Anambra State, Governor Soludo has one vote.
Interviewer: But these Governors have guaranteed the President of their support.
Obi: I am not forcing any Governor to support me. They can all support whom they want to, I am campaigning to be President of Nigeria. The people of Nigeria will decide unless the Governors are preparing to write results or rig elections which I am preaching against.
