Nigerian Students Win Gold at 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup in China
Team Nigeria has made history by winning the Gold Award in the Middle School Group Category at the 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup held in Shanghai, China. It is a landmark achievement for the country's young spellers on the global stage.

—Maryam Yusuf
They earned their places after excelling in the Nigeria Spelling Bee and the African Spelling Bee Championship. Two members of the team, Maryam Yusuf and Abdurrahman Yusuf of Ar-Raheem International College, Ilorin, also won individual medals at the competition.
This was Nigeria's first-ever appearance at the Spelling Bee World Cup, making the victory even more remarkable. The students competed against some of the world's best young spellers and proudly brought home the gold for Nigeria.
