In a deeply disturbing incident that has left a family traumatised, relatives of a 94-year-old woman who passed away in November 2025 arrived at a mortuary in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, to retrieve her body for burial — only to be given a different corpse.
According to the family, when they went to dress their grandmother’s body, the mortuary attendant brought out another body entirely. The family immediately rejected it, sparking chaos at the scene. The attendant responsible allegedly took off and is now on the run.
In a viral video, a distraught granddaughter in a yellow top could be seen crying out in pain and anger:
“My grandmother’s corpse is missing! They gave us another dead body… the attendant has run away!”
Police were called in, but instead of focusing on the missing remains, the family claims officers tried to arrest them. The burial has been disrupted as the family searches for answers.
How does a corpse disappear from a mortuary just days before burial? This raises serious questions about the management of mortuaries in the country. The matter is reportedly now under police investigation.
