Tunde Delu, COO Nigeria Rugby Football Federation Drives Rugby Development with Coaching, Medical Course in Abeokuta
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation, Hon. Tunde Delu, will facilitate a three-day Rugby Coaching and Medical Course in Abeokuta as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots development in the sport.
The programme, organised in partnership with the Ogun State Rugby Association, will hold from April 23 to 25, 2026, at the MITROS Residences and MKO Abiola Sports Arena.
Designed to build technical capacity within the game, the training will equip coaches and medical personnel with essential knowledge in player safety, coaching techniques, and athlete management.
According to Hon. Delu, the course will also serve as a preparatory pathway toward Level 1 and Level 2 coaching and medical certifications while supporting the development of educators ahead of anticipated programmes by World Rugby later in the year.
Participants are expected to have completed introductory modules such as Rugby Ready, Safeguarding, as well as basic coaching and medical courses before attending the training.
Meanwhile, the third edition of the Abeokuta Rugby 7s tournament, also organised by Tunde Delu and initially scheduled for April 25-26, has been postponed to June.
The tournament has steadily grown in profile since its inception, with Cowrie RFC winning the maiden edition after edging Racing RFC 26-21 in a thrilling final. Organisers say the new June date will allow for better preparation and wider participation from clubs across the country
