I write to you in my capacity as the Authentic National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). I wish to bring to your attention a critical situation regarding the internal affairs of our party, which we believe poses a threat to democratic integrity and the rule of law in Nigeria. As a beacon of democracy and a defender of constitutional processes globally, we appeal for the Embassy's moral notice and intervention regarding the undemocratic hijacking of our party.

Statement of Complaint

Our complaint stems from the clear violation of the ADC Constitution following the voluntary resignations of our previous National Chairman, Mr. Ralph Okey Nwosu, and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

According to the provisions of our party's constitution, when the office of the National Chairman becomes vacant, the Deputy National Chairman is mandated to take over the leadership to ensure continuity. Following the resignations, I, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, remained the sole and only National Deputy Chairman who did not resign. Therefore, by constitutional right and due process, the mantle of leadership fell on me to steer the affairs of the party.

However, our legitimate path to leadership has been obstructed by external political actors-power mongers from various other political parties. These individuals are attempting to hijack the ADC and appoint themselves as leaders without any adherence to our party's constitution or established due process.

While we have resorted to the courts to seek justice and affirm our mandate in line with our party's constitution, our opponents have resorted to propaganda. They are falsely alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is sponsoring and using the courts to truncate their ambitions. To be clear, and to set the record straight, we state unequivocally that we have no contact, relationship, or affiliation with President Tinubu or his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Appeal to the United States Embassy

It is on this basis that we appeal to the United States Embassy. As a longstanding defender of democracy and an advocate for the rule of law, we urge you to take note of these anti-democratic practices.

We respectfully request that should these undemocratic elements succeed in their hijack of our party leadership through unconstitutional means, the United States should consider imposing sanctions against them. Specifically, we appeal for the revocation or denial of any privileges-such as visas or diplomatic courtesies-that are typically accorded to genuine democrats and democratic leaders. Such actions would send a strong signal that the subversion of internal party democracy and constitutional processes will not be tolerated by the international community.

We thank you for your continued support in encouraging and nurturing younger democracies to establish good governance globally. We trust that you will view our appeal with the urgency and seriousness it deserves, in the interest of justice and democratic survival in Nigeria.

Please find attached relevant court documents and constitutional provisions for your review.

Yours faithfully,

Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe

Authentic National Chairman

African Democratic Congress (ADC)
