Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday appeared before the Federal High Court in Kaduna for the resumed hearing of his bail application in an ongoing corruption trial.
The proceedings follow an adjournment on Tuesday, with his counsel, Ukpong Abang (SAN), confirming that the court shifted the hearing to allow for the filing of additional responses.
“I’m sorry, I can’t talk now, we are in the middle of work. I have to go and file responses. The hearing of the bail application has been adjourned till tomorrow,” Abang told journalists after the earlier session.
El-Rufai arrived at the court premises under tight security, mirroring the heavy presence observed during his previous appearances, including his arraignment last week.
After the session, he was escorted out of the court in a white Hilux vehicle by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The former governor is standing trial before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering.
El-Rufai had spent over a month in detention before he was granted temporary release on compassionate grounds by the ICPC on March 27, 2026, following the death of his mother, Hajiya Ummar El-Rufai, in Cairo, Egypt.
The court had earlier scheduled March 31, 2026, for the hearing of pending applications, including his bail request, which remains a key focus of the ongoing proceedings.
As the case continues, attention remains on the court’s decision regarding his bail application and the broader implications for the high-profile trial.
