The senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, was on Monday barred from accessing the venue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial meeting in Ijebu-Ode.
Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State who is seeking a second term in the Senate, arrived at the meeting venue but was reportedly stopped from entering.
The development comes amid a growing political rift between him and the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who is also vying for the APC senatorial ticket for Ogun East.
The contest for the party’s ticket has intensified tensions between both political figures in recent weeks.
In a video circulating on Facebook, the bus conveying Daniel to the meeting at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode was seen being blocked at the entrance. Some individuals were observed attempting to negotiate his entry from outside the gate.
Sources indicated that key decisions regarding the Ogun East senatorial ticket were expected to be made during the meeting.
Speaking to his supporters at the venue, Daniel said he had arrived as early as 10:00 a.m. for the APC caucus meeting but was denied access.
“Today is our caucus meeting in Ijebu-Ode. I got here since 10:00 a.m., but they said I cannot enter,” he said.
He added that any decisions taken in his absence would not stand.
“If they take any decision here today without my participation, it will be null and void. Let them continue,” he stated.
