Yesterday after we went to Oba police station with two agents from BUA cement over the accident and how to compensate the victim of Thursday's ghastly accident that our brother miraculously escaped without a scratch
Recall that the only reason BUA cement sent a representative was because we resisted their attempt to transload the truck
When we got to the Oba police state , we had a round table discussion , at least we thought that we did
We made an offer for BUA to replace that damaged Camry and Carter for other minor expenses done after the accident and let us beat the loss of goods (industrial materials) destroyed inside the car
They insisted that we convert our demand to cash which I insisted that they should replace the car plus little expenses
They said that we should give them a figure that will cover the car for us , that it will be easier for them to send money than to buy a car
We gave them a figure and they priced it down
We refused what they offered because it was unrealistic but they said that they are not empowered to go above what they offered , that they will reach out to their GM
We agreed that they will give us a feedback call today Saturday or latest Monday next week
We agreed and left the venue for them to discuss how to protect the content of the truck with the vigilante group that we employed the previous day
To our greatest surprise, these people started transloading the truck after we agreed with them that the transload can wait until we agreement
Recall that ,during the negotiation , we even offered them to transload the truck and bring the goods to Oba police station for safety which they refused citing double expenses
These people , together with the very vigilante group that we employed and handed over to them for the safety of the truck and it's content , started transloading the truck without our knowledge against the agreement we reached just an hour earlier
We stormed there for the second time to stop the transload and this time , with the help of keke people , including ndi Electrical market Obosi ,people passing by
It got so bad that over 100 people later occupied that place that forced the people to make an emergency transfer of the initial amount they offered that we refused
We stayed there till after 7 pm before they could do the transfer and we left the place for them to successfully transload the truck if not
They will abandon the victim of this ugly unfortunate accident and go
If this is how these big companies operate in Nigeria then we have a very big problem in this country
How can you not want to sympathize and compensate the victim of your company accident even though it was not intentional
They claimed that it was the vigilante price that forced them to transload yet they are doing the transload with the protection of the same vigilante
The same vigilante that we hired to protect the truck and our interest in the entire process
How everything changed against us quickly needs to be studied
We igbos are quick to betray our brothers over chicken change but we thank God for people yesterday
Keke people were awesome that yesterday , including ndi Electrical market Obosi
Some people even bought fuel yesterday , I have not seen anything like what happened yesterday
At the end , our brother got something even though it was not what he deserved , but he got something together with his life
Yesterday was another thing for me , we only ate two iruka bread throughout the entire process
