Adeolu Oluwadamilola Oreofe, The Nigerian Spelling Queen

Nigerian of the Week: Adeolu Oluwadamilola Oreofe, the Nigerian Spelling Queen that Conquered Africa

At just 14, Adeolu Oluwadamilola Oreofe has written her name in gold, emerging as the 2026 African Spelling Bee Champion in the Junior Category, held in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The Ekiti State-born spelling prodigy did not arrive at the top by chance, her journey is a story of persistence and steady growth.

From finishing second at the 2023 MTN Spelling Bee, to another second-place finish at the 2024 Ekiti State Spelling Bee, placing fifth at the 2025 African Spelling Bee, and again second at the 2025 Nigeria Spelling Bee, Oreofe kept rising, one competition at a time.

Her breakthrough moment came this year after she dominated the Ekiti State qualifiers, secured second place nationally in Port Harcourt, and ultimately outclassed contestants from over 20 African countries to claim the continental crown.

With brilliance, composure, and an unshakable focus, the student of St. Lawrence Metropolitan College in Ado Ekiti has demonstrated that consistency and hard work truly pay off.

Now crowned Africa’s Junior Spelling Champion, she has earned a $5,000 educational scholarship and will go on to represent the continent at the World Spelling Bee in China later this year.

Adeolu Oreofe is not just a champion, she is a shining example of the excellence, resilience, and potential that define the Nigerian spirit, and so, she is our Real Nigerian of the Week.
