Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has approved billions of naira for the renovation and upgrade of nine General Hospitals and 14 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state. The initiative aims to revamp the health sector in all 14 local government areas.
The 2026 state budget allocates N87 billion to health, prioritizing renovation, expansion, and equipment procurement for key hospitals and PHCs. Nine general hospitals—including Talata Mafara, Gummi, Dansadau, Gusau, and Bungudu—are set for major upgrades, with a total of N1.8 billion earmarked for new medical equipment.
Meanwhile, 14 PHCs across Tsafe, Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Talata Mafara, Gummi, Maru, Bungudu, Shinkafi, Zurmi, Birnin Magaji, Bukkuyum, Anka, Bakura, and Maradun LGAs will undergo renovation and expansion, with allocations ranging from N1 billion to N1.5 billion per facility.
Governor Lawal presented an N861.3 billion budget for 2026, which was later signed into law as N871.337 billion. With 83% dedicated to capital expenditure, the budget emphasizes health, infrastructure, security, education, and agriculture.
