A point-of-sale (POS) operator, identified as Raphael Luther Akpetomun, has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers in Gboko, Benue State.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening, March 8, 2026, at the victim’s shop where he reportedly operated his POS business.
According to sources in the area, Akpetomun was attending to customers when armed men stormed the location. The attackers reportedly opened fire on him, killing him on the spot before making away with an undisclosed amount of money.
The sudden attack has left residents of the community shocked, as POS operators in many parts of the country have increasingly become targets of robbery attacks.
As of the time this report was filed, the Benue State Police Command had yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. However, residents are calling on security agencies to investigate the killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The body of the deceased has reportedly been evacuated from the scene, while locals continue to express grief over the tragic loss.
