Nigeria’s D’tigress Defeat Colombia 70-37 At 2026 FIBA W/Cup Qualifiers -

 On Wednesday 11 March 2026, Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team and 7-time FIBA Women’s AfroBasket champions D’Tigress walloped Colombia 70–37 in the opener at the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tourney.

The match took place at the 5,500-seater indoor basketball arena in Villeurbanne (Lyon), France, and the Nigerians took charge from the get-go, leading 18–12 in the first quarter.


Colombia fought back to narrowly win the second quarter 17-26 but the Naija girls went on to take the third quarter 19-5 and fourth quarter 17-3.


Nigeria’s next game will be against Korea on Thursday 12 March 2026.


The West Africans, currently ranked 8th in the FIBA world rankings, have already booked a spot at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup after winning the Women’s AfroBasket 2025 trophy.


However, this qualifying tournament provides an opportunity for the D’Tigress to hone their skills against strong teams before the FIBA Women’s World Cup finals in Berlin, Germany from 04 to 13 September 2026.
