A group of women in Kano State has introduced 'Mata Zalla', a tricycle (Keke) transport service catering exclusively to women, while providing employment opportunities for female drivers, Rep9ja reports.
Mata Zalla in Hausa means 'exclusively women'.
The initiative features women operating tricycles that transport only female passengers, aligning with the state's conservative cultural norms, while men operate separate tricycles for male passengers.
This program not only addresses cultural concerns but also promotes economic empowerment by training women to become tricycle drivers in a male-dominated industry.
Notably, the Mata Zalla service offers lower fares to encourage greater patronage among women.
