The 1999 Presidential Election was a fascinating one. Chief Obasanjo, a Yoruba man won as President without winning any South Western (Yoruba) state. He won in the North, South South, and South East.
(Results: OBJ in Blue 💙, Falae in Red ♥️). This shows that a regional party can't win a presidential election - you need national appeal.
Interestingly, voter turnout was higher in 1999 than it is now.
