The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Barinada Mpigi, is dead. He was 64.
Mr Mpigi reportedly died on Thursday, according to a source who confirmed the development to The Very Nigerian.
Born on June 23, 1961, the late lawmaker represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District until his death. He was elected to the Senate in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Before his election to the Senate, Mr Mpigi served in the House of Representatives. He was first elected in 2011 and secured a second term in 2016.
During the Ninth Assembly, he chaired a joint Senate committee established to investigate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region. He also served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works.
