CSO Calls for Enforced Punitive Measures Against Blackmail & Fake News

The Foundation for Economic Advancement Advocacy (FEAA)

has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to strictly enforce the Cybercrimes (Amendment) Act 2024, citing repeated cases of blackmail against public service individuals who are hellbent in tarnishing the administration of Pres. Bola Ahmed

Tinubu.

In a Press Statement signed on behalf of the Civil Society Organization, by its National Secretary, Obo Victor, they warned against deliberate attempts by mischief makers to scuttle the transparent reputation, hinged on definite anti-corruption indices already built by the Pres. Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

Obo Victor, mentioned glaring cases of fake news levelled against the office of the Presidency, NDDC, Nigeria Customs Services, Ministry of Aviation, Ministry of Housing, the Corporate

Affairs Commission (CAC), the Nigeria revenue Service (NRS), amongst the few, that have been topics of hate campaigns. They also stressed that these cases have continued to draw ugly attention to the administration of Pres. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, despite the administration’s sterling performances across board, and its devotedness aimed at purging Nigeria of corruption.

The National Secretary said, “there is no gainsaying the truism that a significant number of Federal government appointees and civil servants, have been victims of deliberate smear campaigns, and their reputation have been subjected to blackmail and intimidation, aimed at tarnishing the image of the Federal

Government.”

The CSO has vowed to publish the names of sponsors of fake news and blackmails. They believe that the personalities always been targeted are the shining stars of this administration, who have carved a reputation of being the most hardworking and dependable persons serving in Pres. Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government. They have promised to leave no stone unturned in their effort to ensure that the reputation of the Federal Government is not defiled by these unscrupulous fanatics.

The National Secretary of the FEAA pledged that their organization, have sworn to unveil the masterminds of behind these series of fake news, by naming and shaming them in the National Dailies.

Meanwhile, they have also called on the Federal Government, to implement the punitive measures contained in the Cybercrimes (Amendment) Act 2024, as a deterrent to individuals who have

made an occupation of consistently thriving on fake news, and blackmail targeted at the Federal Government.
