The Concerned Progressives of Abia (CPA) has praised the pedigree, political depth, and quiet organisational work of former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, FNSE, following his appointment as Abia State Chairman of the City Boy Movement.
The group said the appointment merely formalises what Orji has already been doing since joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) strengthening party structures, stabilising internal cohesion, and expanding grassroots acceptance of the party across Abia State.
In a statement jointly endorsed by the group’s General Secretary, Engr. Ifeanyi Iheaka, on Friday, the CPA described Orji as “a political stabiliser whose entry into the APC brought immediate structure, direction, and renewed confidence within the party ranks.”
According to the group, Orji’s years as Speaker between 2019 and 2023 reflected a leadership style anchored on inclusion, institutional stability, and people-centred governance qualities they said have become evident in the way he has quietly repositioned the APC since his defection.
“Since Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji joined the APC, the difference has been clear. Ward structures became more coordinated, stakeholders became more united, and the party gained fresh visibility and acceptance across Abia Central and beyond,” the statement read.
The CPA noted that long before his emergence as Chairman of the City Boy Movement in the state, Orji had been actively mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, engaging party faithful, strengthening local structures, and building consensus across political divides.
The group stressed that Orji’s appointment was not just recognition of his past office as Speaker, but a vote of confidence in the organisational capacity he has demonstrated within the APC in recent months.
“This appointment is a recognition of his pedigree, his administrative experience, and more importantly, the practical work he has done in strengthening the APC since he joined. He did not wait for a title before working for the party,” the CPA stated.
Describing him as a bridge-builder, the group said Orji’s inclusive leadership style has ensured that old and new members of the APC feel carried along, a factor they said has contributed significantly to the party’s growing stability in the state.
They added that his Grassroots Initiative, which empowered youths and women across communities, had already created a loyal grassroots base that naturally transitioned with him into the APC, further widening the party’s reach.
The CPA also highlighted Orji’s professional and leadership background as a Civil Engineer and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), saying his methodical and structured approach to leadership is evident in how he engages political organisation.
“Rt. Hon. Orji is not just a politician; he is a system builder. What we are seeing in the APC today in Abia is the result of deliberate, strategic, and inclusive political engineering,” the group noted.
The CPA pledged full support to Orji’s leadership of the City Boy Movement, revealing that its members across all wards had been directed to work in synergy with the Movement to further consolidate support for President Tinubu and the APC ahead of 2027.
They expressed confidence that with Orji at the helm, the City Boy Movement in Abia would rapidly grow into a formidable mobilisation platform for the Renewed Hope Agenda.
At the unveiling, the Director of the City Boy Movement in Abia State, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe (Don Lulu), described Orji’s emergence as a defining moment for the organisation in the South-East.
“Today, we haven’t just added a name; we have gained a General. Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji is a builder by profession and a builder of men by calling. His acceptance to serve as our Chairman signals a new dawn for the City Boy Movement in the South-East. With Ikukuoma, the wind of progress is now at our backs,” Igbokwe said.
The CPA concluded that Orji’s leadership would not only strengthen the Movement but further solidify the APC’s organisational strength and grassroots penetration across Abia State.
