Pay Back Your Missed Ramadan Fast

Ramadan is a blessed month, and fasting during it is a vital pillar of Islam. However, if you missed any fasts due to valid reasons like illness, menstruation or travel, it is your religious duty to make them up (Qada) as soon as possible.

It was narrated by al-Bukhari (1950) and Muslim (1146) from ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) who said: “I used to have fasts that I still owed from Ramadan, and I could not make them up until Sha’ban, and that was because of the position of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) [as a husband].”

Key Points to Remember:

No Delay Without Excuse: It is not permissible to delay making up missed fasts until the next Ramadan without a valid excuse. The missed fasts must be repaid promptly.

Non-Consecutive Fasts Are Allowed: You do not have to fast the missed days consecutively. You can make them up whenever you are able, even if spread out over time.

Repentance and Sincerity: If you missed fasts for a long time, sincerely repent and ask Allah for forgiveness while making up those fasts.

No Fidyah Unless Excused: Fidyah (feeding a poor person) is only for those who cannot fast due to permanent reasons, not for those who can but delay making up missed fasts.

Reward for Making Up: Making up missed fasts carries the reward of fasting in Ramadan, so do not delay in fulfilling this important obligation.

Take action today: Plan your missed fasts, seek Allah’s forgiveness, and renew your commitment to this sacred duty. Your missed fasts are a trust upon you—pay them back with sincerity and devotion.

May Allah grant us good in this world and in the next!
