Pilgrims pay the Federal Government, through the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) for their pilgrimage.
The government's role (through the National Hajj Commission and the National Christian Pilgrimage Commission) is to receive money from pilgrims and help them organise the pilgrimage. The government helps the pilgrims to negotiate with airlines and get a good deal (discounts, etc), but the airfare is paid by the pilgrims. The government provides consular services to ensure that the registered pilgrims can enter the Holy Lands and that they are safe there, etc. but the cost of the pilgrimage is borne by the pilgrims.
The National Hajj Commission has set a deadline of December 5th for pilgrims to pay for the pilgrimage, but the Kebbi State Government says that some of its citizens will not be able to pay by that date and so it is giving them a loan, that is, it will pay on their behalf and then they can repay the state government later.
This has sparked a debate among northerners on social media.

The Kebbi State Government just approved 10,000,000,000 (10BN) solely for the sponsorship & assistance for Hajj Pilgrimage activities.
Again, and we wonder why these guys think we are a very stu pid set of citizens in the North.

N 10 BILLION LOAN FOR KEBBI STATE PILGRIMS.
The intending pilgrims will do better to perform one of the Hajj rituals - STONING THE DEVIL, by Stoning the person deceiving them with the Hajj loan who qualifies as the " BIGGER DEVIL"
They just deploy religious sentiment to hoodwink se nile people, the same people who can't afford to eat are given loans to go for pilgrimage. This is simply da ftly.
This is in a state where ravaging poverty is @75%, with over 2 million out of school children, dilapidated Hospitals and schools, poor township and feeder roads, lacking clean drinking water, unpaid gratuities, youth unemployment, children learning on the floor, no drugs, collapsed primary health centers etc etc.
This is pure m adness and illiteracy.

Same country people collect loans to gamble and build failed businesses. NAHCON has closed collections of fees, so many intending pilgrims have made deposits and would lose d chance of going to hajj, Gov. wades and gives a loan which will b paid back by pilgrims. What’s d issue?

Love thy nation, speak well to it @OLABIM
Hajj is not a necessity. Almighty Allah put a fundamental clause to it as well. IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT AND IN GOOD HEALTH. You are making a mockery of Islam this way. Millions of children will go hungry in the same state with nowhere to sleep, and we think this is the way?

The issue is how is Hajj a better priority to children's education who without it can end up being bandits tomorrow. How important is Hajj compare to jobs those funds can create to liberate idle youth from being used by the devils workshop. Haba Hon. Where is this coming from?.
