The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Ahmed Abubakar, for allegedly attempting to supply 1,000 rounds of ammunition to bandits in Zamfara State.
CP Miller G. Dantawaye, who disclosed this to newsmen at the Command Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, said the suspect was arrested on Monday around 3:30 p.m. by the command’s tactical team after acting on credible intelligence at Unguwar Dodo in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been in contact with an associate, identified as Yusuf Mohammed, and that Abubakar intended to procure 1,000 rounds of ammunition to transport to bandits in a forest in Zamfara.
“And our investigation further revealed that he was sent by his uncle, one Ahmed Yakubu who believed to be a key accomplice and currently at large, to purchase and transport the ammunition for criminal elements operating within their locality in Zamfara,” the CP said.
He said the suspect is currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and dismantle the criminal network involved.
The police commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to ridding the FCT and its environs of crime and ensuring the safety of residents.
