Abuja Set To Host The Most Anticipated Niger Delta Peace and Meritorious Awards

Arrangements are in top gear for the long-awaited Niger Delta Peace and Meritorious (NDPM) Awards slated to hold in December, an annual recognition platform dedicated to celebrating individuals and institutions advancing peace, development, and innovation across the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

The NDPM Awards spotlight outstanding contributions in peacebuilding, leadership, community development, arts, and innovation, while inspiring younger generations to model the achievements of honourees.

This year, former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan will be conferred with the prestigious title of Niger Delta Agent of Peace in recognition of his longstanding commitment to fostering unity, stability, and diplomatic engagement both within Nigeria and across the African continent.

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, will receive the honour of Niger Delta Pillar of Peace for his role in championing developmental initiatives and legislative interventions aimed at strengthening socio-economic growth in the region.

Similarly, renowned community leader Chief Keston Pondi will be decorated as Niger Delta Man of the Year, a testament to his contributions toward community empowerment and regional advancement.

According to the organisers, this category is one of the avenues through which the NDPM Awards encourage emerging leaders to pursue excellence and impactful service.

Speaking on the objectives of the award, the organisers noted that the initiative seeks to showcase the Niger Delta’s abundant talents, achievements, and innovations, while promoting stronger collaboration among government institutions, private-sector actors, and grassroots stakeholders.

The high-profile event will take place on January 13, 2026, at the CONGRESS HALL, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, and is expected to attract a distinguished array of national leaders, development advocates, cultural icons, and captains of industry.

Organisers of the award say preparations have reached advanced stages, with the full list of honourees and programme lineup to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
