Nigerian Deported By Hyderabad Police For Drug Peddling And Illegal Stay (

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police on Wednesday deported a Nigerian national who had overstayed his visa and was allegedly involved in drug peddling.

According to Hyderabad- Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) officials, Onyeukwu Kelechi Victor arrived in India in 2021 on a student visa and landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport before moving to Bengaluru, where he enrolled as a student.

Despite his visa expiring in 2024, he continued to stay in India illegally.

Later, due to financial constraints, Victor reportedly developed contacts with drug suppliers and became a peddler. He used to deliver drug to customers in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, officials said.

"While he was moving around in Banjara Hills, we apprehended him. However, no drugs were seized from Victor. During interrogation, he failed to provide a valid explanation or documents pertaining to his stay in Hyderabad.

Upon thorough enquiry, it was found that he did not possess a valid visa and was overstaying,"' H-NEW officials said.

After taking a decision to repatriate Victor to Nigeria, the police initiated the process through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), and he was deported on Wednesday.

Over the past three years, 23 foreign nationals, including 15 Nigerians, have been deported. Similarly, 33 foreign nationals have been arrested for their involvement in drug trafficking, officials further said.
