BIRNIN KEBBI — The Kebbi State Police Command has announced the arrest of three suspected gunrunners and the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle and 732 rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition in separate operations carried out in Bena and Dolekaina areas of the state.


According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, on Thursday, the arrests were made during coordinated intelligence-driven patrols aimed at curbing the movement of illegal arms and ammunition across northwestern Nigeria.


Two Suspects Nabbed on Bena-Ribah Road


The statement revealed that during a joint patrol along the Bena-Ribah Road, police operatives intercepted and arrested Rabi’u Umar of Karen Bana village in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, and Nasiru Hussaini of Doya village in Bauchi State. Upon search, a fabricated AK-47 rifle and five rounds of live 7.62x39mm ammunition were recovered from them.


Another Arrest in Dolekaina with 732 Live Rounds


In a separate operation, officers attached to the Dolekaina Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended one Lawwali Ibrahim of Anka town in Zamfara State, who was found in possession of 732 rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition during a surveillance patrol at Bakin Mashaya area, Dolekaina.


Upon interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to smuggling the ammunition from Mokassa town in Benin Republic, with the intent to deliver it to criminal networks in Anka town, Zamfara State.


CP Sani Commends Tactical Units


The Command noted that both cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for detailed investigation and possible prosecution.


The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the Divisional Police Officers of Bena and Dolekaina for their professionalism, bravery, and intelligence-driven policing. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining its operations against banditry, kidnapping, and arms trafficking in Kebbi State.


“We remain resolute in our mission to make Kebbi a safe and peaceful state through proactive intelligence and community collaboration,” CP Sani said.
