Gala And Malt Shared For Votes At Anambra Governorship Election

A viral video circulating on social media shows voters in Anambra State reportedly being offered Gala sausage rolls and Malt drinks in exchange for their votes during the ongoing governorship election taking place today, November 8, 2025.

The footage captures people standing in a long queue at polling units, being attended to one after the other. While one man was distributing the Gala and Malt, another individual was handing voters an unidentified amount of cash in Naira notes.

This alleged activity, widely regarded as vote-buying, has reignited national concerns about electoral malpractice. Vote-buying is considered an electoral offense and is strongly condemned for undermining Nigeria’s democratic process.

One viral post captured the mood online, reading: “Nigerians are selling their votes for 1 Malt and 1 Gala in Anambra State at the ongoing Governorship Elections!”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and several election observer groups have repeatedly warned both political parties and voters against engaging in vote trading. Some candidates have also called on the electorate to reject all monetary or material inducements at polling units.

Is this a litmus test for what the 2027 election will be? Many Nigerians are already asking this question as discussions on vote-buying intensify online.
