A new footage has emerged showing several corpses floating on the Lake Chad River after the deadly clash between Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters. In the footage, multiple bodies can be seen drifting on the water, believed to be the aftermath of the violent confrontation that occurred a few days ago.
Heavy gunfire could be heard during the clashes as fighters exchanged shots while moving on boats across the lake, shouting “Allahu Akbar” amid the fighting.
Interestingly, a few days ago, when an earlier footage from the clash was posted, some Nairaland users speculated whether the fighters were merely shooting at the water or “at fish,” claiming it seemed there were no casualties. Others had requested pictures of bodies. This latest video now confirms the tragic outcome, showing corpses floating in the river.
The Jama’tu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction of Boko Haram reportedly overran ISWAP positions, capturing weapons and equipment, while sustaining minimal losses. The ongoing inter-jihadist conflict has persisted since the groups split in 2016, fueled by ideological differences and a struggle for territorial control in the Lake Chad basin.
