Aregbesola Accuses current Administration of Betraying Progressive Ideals of Awolowo, Bola Ige
– Former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on Thursday criticised the current federal administration, declaring that it has “betrayed the ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Bola Ige, and our other progressive forebears.”
Mr Aregbesola, the current National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, (ADC), made the remarks during a well-attended reception organised for him in Ikire, headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area and part of the Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency.
Speaking to a large crowd of supporters, the former governor said residents of the three local government areas that make up the federal constituency turned out in massive numbers to welcome him and his team, signalling what he described as a growing desire for change.
“It is time to restore a people-friendly government and return the progressive forces to power,” Mr Aregbesola declared, in an apparent call for a return to what he considers the authentic progressive tradition, ideals in Yoruba politics.
The ex-governor, who served as Osun governor from 2010 to 2018, also expressed gratitude to the Akire of Ikire, Oba Olatunde Falabi Lambeloye III, and his council of chiefs for the warm reception and royal blessings bestowed on what he called “our new political journey.”
