Bakin Ruwa, Kebbi State — A Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa Town, Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, was attacked by terrorists on Monday, leaving at least three officers dead and significant property destroyed.
According to official sources, heavily armed terrorists stormed the checkpoint in the early hours of the day, opening fire on officers on duty. Although eyewitnesses claim the attackers targeted almost everyone at the site, the NIS has confirmed three fatalities so far.
During the assault, the terrorists reportedly set fire to several operational assets, including official patrol vehicles, offices, and auxiliary structures within the checkpoint. Images and videos from the aftermath show the charred remains of buildings and burnt-out vehicles.
Residents of Bakin Ruwa described the attack as one of the most devastating in recent times, expressing fears about the growing insecurity in Bagudu LGA and nearby communities.
Local authorities say security agencies have begun investigations, while reinforcements have been deployed to prevent further breaches. The Kebbi State Government has also condemned the attack, calling it “an assault on national security” and pledging support to the families of the fallen officers.
The incident has once again renewed calls for improved protection for security personnel, especially those stationed in remote or high-risk locations across the country.
