Daddy Freeze Reveals Why His First Marriage Failed, Says It Left Him Broken

Nigerian media personality, Daddy Freeze, has opened up about the struggles and eventual collapse of his marriage to his ex-wife, Opeyemi.

Speaking in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Freeze disclosed that he married at 24 while his ex-wife was 22, admitting he only tied the knot because she was pregnant at the time. According to him, if not for the pregnancy, marriage would not have been on the table. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The broadcaster recounted how the union became emotionally draining, with both partners living separately under the same roof. “We were not even sleeping in the same room anymore, but we were going to church together,” he said.

Freeze revealed that the marriage cost him heavily—spiritually, emotionally, and financially. He recalled being sidelined at church after the divorce, losing jobs, and being unable to see his children for almost ten years.

“The marriage broke me. It was two damaged people in a union, and when it ended, I lost my kids, I lost jobs, and even the few jobs I got, I couldn’t deliver because I was shattered,” he explained.

He also shared how financial struggles hit him so hard that at one point he couldn’t afford ₦10,000 to buy a birthday cake for his daughter.

Despite the painful memories, Daddy Freeze contrasted his first marriage with his current one, noting that while he sometimes raises his voice, he has never physically assaulted his wife.

He concluded that the experience of his first marriage left lasting scars, including strained relationships with his children, who, according to him, “see me as the devil, just as half of the world sees me as the devil.”
