“Single Parenting Is Not Easy, Men Are Not Serious” – Actress Lola Idije Speaks Out
Veteran Yoruba actress, Lola Idije, has opened up about the harsh realities of being a single parent, describing it as one of the most difficult journeys any woman can face.
In a candid interview, the Nollywood star explained that raising children alone comes with enormous financial and emotional responsibilities. From paying school fees to providing daily meals, she noted that the burden often rests solely on the shoulders of single mothers. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
According to her, friends and relatives usually make promises of support but rarely show up when it truly matters, leaving women to “carry the load alone.”
Men, Trust, and Stereotypes
Lola Idije also addressed the challenges women—especially actresses—face in their relationships with men. She criticized many men for being unserious, revealing that some even place bets on who can “win” a woman’s affection.
She further noted that actresses are often disrespected and underestimated, with some men believing they can easily buy their attention with money—sometimes as little as ₦500,000.
Describing such stereotypes as degrading and hurtful, the actress urged women to be cautious with trust, warning that betrayal often comes from those expected to help.
Pushing Through Despite Challenges
Despite these struggles, Lola Idije praised single mothers for their resilience, sacrifice, and determination. She explained that, while society often judges women harshly—especially those in the entertainment industry—they continue to push forward for the well-being of their children.
She concluded with a message of encouragement:
“Life may not be easy, but with determination and faith, women can overcome even the toughest challenges and raise their children successfully.”
