Police Rescue Woman From Attempted Suicide On Carter Bridge, Lagos

 In a remarkable display of vigilance and compassion, officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have successfully rescued an elderly woman who attempted to jump into the lagoon from Carter Bridge in Lagos. Eyes Of Lagos reports,


Swift Action by Patrol Officers


According to a statement released by the RRS, the incident occurred at around 12:20 p.m. on Friday during a routine patrol. Officers noticed the woman moving towards the edge of the bridge in a distressed state. They quickly intervened before she could take the fatal leap.


“At about 12:20 p.m. today, operatives of the RRS on patrol successfully prevented an elderly woman from jumping into the lagoon from Carter Bridge,” the statement confirmed.


The officers immediately moved her to safety and transported her to the RRS Headquarters for further support.

Family Intervention and Counseling


Upon arrival at the headquarters, CSP Shola Jejeloye, Commander of the RRS, listened carefully to the woman’s account of events. Recognizing the sensitive nature of her situation, he arranged a private meeting between the woman, her husband, and their 30-year-old son to help resolve the family issues that may have contributed to her emotional distress.


Following the closed-door meeting, the RRS Commander offered the woman extensive counseling and showed additional compassion by providing her with a cash gift to support her recovery and well-being.

Gratitude and Safe Return


The woman and her family expressed deep appreciation to the RRS for their timely response, the thoughtful guidance provided by CSP Jejeloye, and the financial support extended to them.


“The woman has since been released into the care of her husband and son,” the statement concluded.
