Dr Philip Ozuah Redeems $1M Pledge, Commissioned Block C At University Of Ibadan -

On June 11, 2025, the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI) celebrated a significant milestone with the official opening of Block C, a brand-new student hostel. The event marked a significant leap forward in improving campus life and was filled with joy and pride, especially for the students who will soon call Block C home.

This achievement was made possible by Dr. Philip O. Ozuah, a distinguished college alumnus. In 2022, he pledged $1 million to support the construction of a modern hostel—and he fulfilled that promise in

full. Three years later, he returned to commission the very building his generosity made possible.

Block C is the first and largest of six planned hostel buildings in CoMUI’s student housing project. With 88 two-bedroom units, four reading rooms, and space for 176 students, it sets a new standard for student accommodation at the university.

A Fresh Start for Student Living

For years, students at the College of Medicine struggled with accommodation. Overcrowded hostels, long commutes, and high off-campus rent made studying, resting, or feeling safe difficult.

The opening of Block C offers a real solution—clean, modern, and secure housing right on campus. It brings peace of mind, allowing students to focus on learning and growing.

The commissioning brought together university leaders, staff, students, alumni, and guests in a colourful celebration. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and hope for a better future.
