Nigerian Actor and Producer April Chidinma Makes Movie to Tackle Female Circumcision
An entertainment enthusiast,Actor and Producer April Chidinma has released a movie titled, PREYE which seeks to raise awareness on the health, emotional and social implications of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), ABUJAPRESS reports.
The movie currently trending on YouTube highlights painful experiences women go through especially victims of FGM, calling for a support system that helps them heal.
Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, April Chidinma said she was inspired to make the movie in expression of her determination and dedication to shaping a more inclusive and compassionate world where crude and harmful cultural practices will be reduced to the barest minimum.
"I was heavily inspired by the pain experienced by women who were victims of FGM and the lack of empathy, care and compassion from their partners, and also call on those who are still practicing such barbaric culture to put an end to it as it’s inhumane", she said.
She also appealed to community and religious leaders to take the campaign against FGM to their subjects and congregations so that it could trickle down.
April Chidinma also expressed delight that the movie has been screened at Toronto International Film Festival, describing it as an encouragement for time and hard work put into the production.
"Well to me they are moments in life that take years of uncertainty, self-doubt, quiet persistence, private hope and wrap them into something real. For me, having my film screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TINFF) is one of those moments.
"TINFF has long represented something almost mythical to me, it is a kind of cultural electricity that every filmmaker dreams of being part of", she stated.
