A stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State descended into chaos on Sunday after top party leaders repeatedly failed to acknowledge Vice President Kashim Shettima while endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term

The gathering, which brought together key APC figures from the North-East—including ministers, lawmakers, governors, and the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje—was intended to solidify support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Tensions erupted when the party’s National Vice Chairman (North-East), Comrade Mustapha Salihu, endorsed President Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate but pointedly left out Shettima’s name. The omission sparked immediate outrage among delegates, some of whom hurled insults and attempted to confront Salihu physically before security operatives whisked him away.

In a bid to calm the situation, Deputy National Chairman Bukar Dalori publicly endorsed both Tinubu and Shettima for second terms, a move aimed at appeasing aggrieved members—particularly given Shettima’s influence in the North-East and his origin from Borno State.

However, tensions flared once again when APC National Chairman Ganduje delivered a lengthy address without mentioning the Vice President. His silence further angered delegates and forced him to leave the venue under tight security.
