Fast-rising singer Ayo Maff has opened up about his early struggles, revealing that he moved out of his family home in Shomolu, Lagos, at just 16 years old in a bid to change his family’s situation

Speaking in a recent interview with Hip TV, the 19-year-old recounted the challenges of growing up as the first child in a tough environment, saying the decision to leave home was driven by his desire to provide more for his loved ones.

“It wasn’t easy at home. Life in Shomolu is tough, but it’s also fun and full of lessons,” he said. “Without those experiences, I wouldn’t have much to sing about. Shomolu showed me the reality of life and helped shape who I am.”

Determined to make something of himself, Ayo Maff decided to stay with a friend for over a year. Though his mother was initially worried, he reassured her that he would stay in touch and regularly check in on the family.
