Rivers: No Reason For Peace Not To Reign Between Me And My Oga – Fubara (

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has brushed aside criticisms questioning his political identity, reaffirming his commitment to restoring peace with his predecessor and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

News360 Nigeria reports that Fubara made these statement while addressing his supporters in a viral video that surfaced online amid ongoing efforts to reconcile both political leaders following months of tension that rocked the state’s political structures.

The feud between Fubara and Wike, which began shortly after the governor assumed office in 2023, escalated to a point where governance in the state suffered disruptions, prompting President Bola Tinubu to declare a six-month emergency intervention to restore calm.

While hinting at a thaw in relations after a reported meeting involving Tinubu, Wike, and himself, Governor Fubara stated there was no reason peace should not return between him and his political mentor.

“There is no reason why there won’t be peace between me and my Oga,” Fubara said, referring to Wike. “We want peace so that Rivers will move forward.”

Responding to critics who label him a non-politician, Fubara questioned the criteria for such a label, asserting that what truly matters is the kind of respect one commands, earned, not enforced.

“They said I’m not a politician but I don’t know what is the entry requirement for wanting to be a politician. But I know that what is most important in this life is respect that I earned and not respect that is being forced,” he said.

He further assured his supporters of his unwavering commitment to their welfare and encouraged open dialogue, promising to remain approachable and receptive to constructive criticism.

“I want to earn your respect by not bossing you but serving you. Feel free to tell me when I make mistakes. I need the support of everyone and we need the support of each other and again, I want to assure you that I’m with you completely,” Fubara added
