Chelsea may have clinched the UEFA Europa Conference League title, but when it comes to European football revenue, it's Arsenal who stand tall among English clubs this season.
The Blues delivered a stellar second-half performance in Wroclaw, Poland, to secure a 4-1 victory over Real Betis, thanks to goals from Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho, and Moises Caicedo. The triumph capped off a remarkable debut season for manager Enzo Maresca and handed Chelsea their first piece of silverware since 2022.
Historic Trophy, Modest Financial Reward
With the win, Chelsea became the first English club to win all three major UEFA competitions—the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. However, in terms of financial gains, the Conference League offers far less than its more prestigious counterparts.
According to Football London, Chelsea’s total earnings from their Conference League run—including group stage bonuses, performance-based payouts, and prize money for winning the final—amount to approximately €22 million.
Arsenal Earn Nearly Six Times More Without a Trophy
In contrast, Arsenal, who made it to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2009, earned a whopping €117 million, per Sky Sports. The Gunners were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain in a 3-1 aggregate defeat, but their financial haul was significant—about €95 million more than Chelsea’s total revenue from lifting the Conference League trophy.
The massive revenue gap highlights the financial disparity between the UEFA Champions League and other European competitions. Even without winning a trophy, Arsenal's earnings underscore how lucrative Europe’s top-tier tournament has become.
Chelsea Fans Fire Back
Despite the earnings gap, Chelsea supporters were quick to take jabs at Arsenal fans on social media, downplaying the financial figures in favor of their actual trophy success.
One fan, @coachxak, responded:
“You’re saying this because you didn’t win a cup. I know you’re an Arsenal fan.”
Another Chelsea supporter, @AgbabuneOv39708, wrote:
“It’s not all about the money. The fight is to lift a trophy.”
@InspectorKitso chimed in:
“Keep your Champions League money. We’ll keep our Conference League trophy. The set is complete. You’ll celebrate money, Arsenal fans.”
User USomtochuk62162 tweeted:
“Make them use the money buy European trophy naa.”
Meanwhile, @CFCKarter questioned:
“How many trophies did Arsenal win?”
While Arsenal top the earnings chart with their deep Champions League run, Chelsea walk away with the more tangible reward—a European trophy. The difference in revenue once again demonstrates the financial dominance of the Champions League, but as Chelsea fans argue, glory on the pitch often means more than figures in the bank.
